Book Review: Dark Matter by Blake Crouch

book review dark matter by Blake Crouch cover“Are you happy with your life?” Those are the last words Jason Dessen hears before the masked abductor knocks him unconscious. Before he awakens to find himself strapped to a gurney, surrounded by strangers in hazmat suits. Before a man Jason’s never met smiles down at him and says, “Welcome back, my friend.”

In this world he’s woken up to, Jason’s life is not the one he knows. His wife is not his wife. His son was never born. And Jason is not an ordinary college physics professor but a celebrated genius who has achieved something remarkable–something impossible.

Is it this world or the other that’s the dream? And even if the home he remembers is real, how can Jason possibly make it back to the family he loves? The answers lie in a journey more wondrous and horrifying than anything he could’ve imagined—one that will force him to confront the darkest parts of himself even as he battles a terrifying, seemingly unbeatable foe.

My Review:

If this is the only review you’ve happened upon for this book, consider yourself lucky because I will not tell you anything about the story for fear of giving something away. Don’t tempt fate by reading other reviews because all it takes is one to ruin it for you.

So that’s it? A cover image, the blurb and two lines telling us what you’re not going to tell us and we’re expected to run out and read this?

Um… yeah?

Okay, maybe this will help.  At least a couple of times I felt like I had the rug pulled out from under me. I LOVE when a story catches me off guard and this story did this to me on a couple of occasions. There were Where’s The Fire moments that left me with my jaw open(there may or may not have been some drool present).

Then the story gets weird.

I enjoyed this amazing ride and recommend this if you like being kept off balance.

5/5 Stars
